Kawatiri Historic Railway Walk

page 2

Beyond, more abutments signal a further bridge.

The track is wide, benched and well surfaced. It's delightful walking.

Kiokio (Blechnum novae-zelandiae) grows lush

This one I feel I should know, but can't get a match. It looks as though it's part of the Gleichenia/Sticherus group

There are so many ferns here my somewhat sketchy information hits overload very quickly

We emerge above the stream with the road just across the way.

Here is a fertile frond. Many ferns have spores only on some of their fronds, and funnily enough, these often look to the uneducated eye as if they had been stricken with a disease of some sort.

The path continues around back to the bridge we crossed earlier

still easy travelling and you won't get your street shoes dirty

Eventually it's back to the van and time for lunch. We have been joined by several other vehicles since we left.
